Bodh Gaya is very Popular Buddhist Centre which is located in Gaya
district in India. This is famous for the place of Gautama Buddha's being
attainment. Bodh Gaya is the most important of the main four pilgrimage sites
related to the life of Gautama Buddha. Buddhism as a religion was really born in
Bihar and evolved here through his preaching and the example of his lifestyle of
great simplicity, renunciation and empathy for everything living. The main
monastery of Bodhgaya used to be called the Mahabodhi Temple.
Mahabodhi Temple is an architectural effect is excellent. Its top
basement is 48 square feet and it rises in the form of a slender Pyramid till it
reaches its neck, which is cylindrical in shape. The temple stands in the east
to the Bodhi Tree. In the main sanctum, there is a colossal image of the Buddha
in sitting posture touching the earth by his right hand. In this posture the
Buddha accomplished the supreme enlightenment. BODHI TREE is probably the fifth
succession of the original tree under which the Buddha had attained
enlightenment. Vajrasana, the seat of stability, is a stone platform on which
the Buddha is supposed to have sat in meditation gazing east, under the Bodhi
tree.
Vishnupada Temple built by Rani Ahilyabai of Indore in the eighteenth
century. The spot on which it stands is associated with the famous mythological
event of Lord Vishnu killing the demon Gaya and leaving his footprints on the
rocks. These footprints are main object of worship in the temple. Some consider
this footmark to be that of Lord Buddha himself. In the view of the constant
growth in Spiritual tourism 'Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation' is
at this time running more than 20 packages based on the railway amongst which a
Buddhist circuit special train is prominent.
